Quantum Horizons
Spring 2008
Albert Hall Nottingham
Japanese Drumming, Quantum Mechanics and Ballet
at the Albert Hall Nottingham.
April 12th 2008 sees another community spectacular featuring Science on Stage back at the Albert Hall for an evening of Science and great choral music. This time the event is hosted by the Nottingham based chamber choir ‘In Accord’.There will be large numbers of both singers and dancers of all ages together with visual effects to keep everyone on the edge of their seats.
We are delighted to welcome the Dojo Drummers from Mugenkyo Taiko Dojo, a nationally renowned Taiko drumming group. These will demonstrate their spectacular art form and work with Science on Stage on the quantum mechanics inspired piece ‘Schrodinger’s Cat’. This is based on the famous thought experiment of the same name which has haunted imaginations and tortured brains ever since it was first proposed in 1935 and which linked the state of an atom, which normally obeys quantum principles, to the state of a cat, which normally doesn’t.
The piece will be choreographed by ex Ballet Rambert dancer Dean Skiba and performed by his new team ‘Switch’.
In Accord and friends will be presenting the new Karl Jenkins composition ‘In these Stones Horizons Sing’ and there will of course be science demonstrations and engaging performances from our very youngest contributors.
Those who are familiar with organ music will recognise the name of David Butterworth who has worked with us on several of these concerts and has delighted audiences all over the country with his organ recitals. He will be playing the great Binns organ during this concert, which will be a treat in itself, his performance will also be choreographed and lit so that virtually no sense will escape unscathed.
The organisations who took part last year will be appearing again and they will be joined by new faces, but the big difference that will be noticed by those who have joined us before for these shows will be the contributions from top flight professional dancers and a professional drum company.
Events like this are very expensive and we are grateful to our many generous sponsors. In order to continue to fulfil our aim of putting high standard performance in high standard settings at affordable prices, we are always looking for sponsorship.
